The Checklist For Anyone Who is Allowing Others on Their Property

If you have decided to rent out your property, allow a babysitter or nanny to take care of your children, or hired a person to come clean your home, you could be at risk for a robbery or similar misfortunes. Each time someone comes into your home that is not already a part of that household, you are inviting a potential threat to your home’s security. For that reason, I have created a checklist to assist those who may be trusting their homes in the hands of others. Specifically, there are three things that you should always check out as a precaution: background, criminal history, and professional history.

First and most-telling is the background information. Not just a silly threat used by overprotective teenage girl’s dads, a background check can provide a lot of solid information about the individual. These are especially accessible now thanks to the internet, since there are now several internet sites where you can find this information. With the individual’s background information, always be sure to get an address history. Frequently changing one’s address beyond the usual can be a sign of financial or other instability, which may also indicate a risk in hiring or renting to the individual.

Second, a criminal history can be obtained as a complement of the background check. In addition to this criminal history check, a sexual offender check can afford your family the most protection. This is because most crimes can be wiped off of someone’s record after a certain period of years, but with sexual offenses, the government always maintains records of that person’s offense. Also, though it sounds rudimentary, a person’s driving history is a good starting point to see how good they will be with your children. DUI’s and reckless driving tickets should be checked for, as those tickets show a potential risk.

Finally, a professional history check is an important addition to the other two checks. Be sure to check for any professional training, especially if the applicant professes to having had specialized training in nanny work or first aid. With that, the person’s job history is a good indication of how reliable he or she will be as a worker. Frequent changes in jobs, or dismissals from jobs may be an indication that this candidate is not the best on for your home.

Keep in mind, that with all of this information, simply getting the applicant’s social security number is all that you need to obtain all of these libraries of information. An application may be an important factor for you to get that information. If you are writing your own application for the process, make sure to include disclaimers about disclosing information. If it is possible, hiring a lawyer to do the paperwork could save you from some major financial trouble in the end. Finally, intuition can be the most important way to distinguish individuals entering your home. This is because that even though offenses may show up on the applicant’s history, he or she may be cleared of those offenses and already started upon a new life.
