Getting the facts straight with home security!
May 01, 2008 Gavyn Smith Associate Editor Secure24Seven.com I was just browsing recently, trying to get an idea of what different security companies offer in terms of equipment and service when suddenly I came to one definite conclusion: there is no definite source of comparison data. For example, perform a search on the web for ‘security system comparison’ and try out several of the links there. You will then come to the same conclusion that I have, depending on whose site you are looking at, the facts change. Just to make my point clear, go to www.homesecuritytopics.com/comparison.html and what you’ll see is a very presentable table that appears to have its facts straight. However, upon closer examination, you will find that first of all the source data was collected in 2004; second: look at the different categories and you will notice not all of the information is correct. Brinks and ADT both offer three points of protection, so that row is incorrect, next the package price is obviously way off the mark, since you can get an ADT system for free from a dealer, we even offer it at our website at www.secure24seven.com Next check out http://www.thesafehome.net/comparemonitoralarms.html and you’ll see another table comparing Protect America and ADT – Again the facts are not completely straight here…the system is compared to the hard-wired version of the ADT security system which is not at all a common system nowadays. Again the door contacts issue comes up, the package/installation fee, and the telephone connect fee is added in there, which is included with the installation. This information may have been correct at one time, but comparing something modern with something in the past is not a fair comparison. No offense is intended toward any of these sites, there are obviously examples with each company trying to persuade their customers that theirs is really the best! What it all comes down to is that we can no longer just go by what is printed, after all 75& of all facts are made up… Check out legitimate customer reviews and call the corporate company yourself if you want the full story. Ask neighbors if they like their systems, and browse around the different companies’ websites. Gone are the days of simply being able to take something for face value, we as consumers now need to be just as savvy as the salesman.
